Transportation
IP audio solutions for railways, airports, bus terminals, metro systems, and highway infrastructure.
Transportation environments demand reliable, always-on public address and intercom systems that work across geographically distributed locations, survive harsh environments, and integrate with existing safety infrastructure. Barix products power passenger information, emergency broadcast, and intercom across rolling stock, platforms, and control centers.
Deployment Scenarios
Real-world challenges solved with Barix and BNA products in Transportation.
Railway Station Platform Paging
Challenge
A busy railway station needs live arrival/departure announcements across 12 platforms simultaneously, with operators able to select individual platforms or all platforms.
Solution
Annuncicom PS16 master paging station at the operations center (expandable key field = one key per platform) broadcasts to Exstreamer P5 PoE speakers on each platform. Instreamer encodes the central audio source for distribution. Operators page individual or all platforms instantly.
Rolling Stock Passenger Information
Challenge
A train operator needs IP audio devices inside passenger carriages that meet EN50155 rail certification and survive vibration, temperature variation, and EMI from traction systems.
Solution
Annuncicom 155 with EN50155 certification and dual Ethernet redundancy is the only Barix device certified for rolling stock. Deployed in each carriage, connected to the train's onboard Ethernet, it receives announcements from the central driver station and plays them through carriage speakers.
Airport Terminal BGM & Announcements
Challenge
An airport needs different ambient music in departures, arrivals, and retail concessions — all scheduled centrally — with emergency broadcast override from the operations center.
Solution
Exstreamer SoundScape Players at each terminal zone receive scheduled playlists from the central SoundScape Portal. During emergencies, Annuncicom PS16 at the operations center overrides all zones with live voice broadcast. BNA IP-PS-1602 provides the primary PA station.
Highway Tunnel Emergency Intercom
Challenge
A road authority needs emergency intercom stations inside a 3 km tunnel at 100m intervals, connected over the tunnel's fiber backbone, with supervisory monitoring at the control center.
Solution
Annuncicom 200 at each intercom point (PoE-powered from the tunnel fiber switches) provides two-way communication with the control center. Barionet 100 monitors environmental sensors (CO, smoke) and triggers pre-recorded emergency messages via the Annuncicom network when thresholds are exceeded.
