Telecommunication
Remote site monitoring, IP audio for telecom infrastructure, and I/O control for telco equipment rooms and tower sites.
Telecommunication environments need reliable remote monitoring and control of infrastructure sites — often unmanned — with IP-based I/O devices that bridge legacy serial/relay equipment to modern IP networks.
Deployment Scenarios
Real-world challenges solved with Barix and BNA products in Telecommunication.
Remote Tower Site Environmental Monitoring
Challenge
A telecom operator needs temperature and door intrusion monitoring at 50 remote tower sites with alert notification to the NOC — without visiting each site.
Solution
Barionet 50 at each tower connects temperature sensors via Dallas 1-wire and door sensors via digital inputs. Relay output activates a local alarm siren for intrusion. Modbus TCP to the NOC over the site backhaul link provides centralized monitoring of all 50 sites.
Telecom Equipment Room Audio Announcement
Challenge
A data center needs audio alerts in equipment rooms when critical thresholds (temperature, UPS fault) are crossed — audible to engineers working in the room.
Solution
Barionet 100 monitors UPS fault relays and temperature sensors. When thresholds are exceeded, Barionet's relay output triggers Annuncicom 60 to play a pre-recorded alert through a room speaker — engineers hear the alert immediately without watching a monitoring screen.
Battery Backup Site Power Savings I/O
Challenge
A telecom shelter on battery backup needs I/O monitoring with minimal power consumption to extend battery runtime between mains outages.
Solution
Barix IO12 DIN-rail I/O extension provides Modbus RTU monitoring of shelter sensors with special power saving mode — extending battery runtime while maintaining full I/O monitoring capability. Connects to the site controller over the existing RS-485 bus.
IPv6 Smart Telco Infrastructure Control
Challenge
A next-generation telco deployment requires IPv6-native I/O controllers at distributed infrastructure points to integrate with the IPv6 management network.
Solution
Barionet 1000 with IPv6 capability and WiFi connectivity deploys at each infrastructure point without Ethernet cabling. Its Linux/OpenWRT environment allows custom management scripts that communicate natively over IPv6 to the telco NOC.
